Optional

Claude and ChatGPT with your family's day (optional, in development)

FamilyOrganization.app is the family organizer on the TV you already own, with an ADHD-friendly visual timeline for each person (Roku now; Apple TV, Fire TV and Google TV coming).

AI is not involved in our app unless you'd like it to be. For families who want it, we're developing a connector for Claude and ChatGPT: a household admin connects it once, then asks in plain words to add tasks, plan meals or read out the day. It's in development and not open to families yet.

AI is optional

Do you need AI to use FamilyOrganization.app?

No. AI isn't involved in the app unless you want it to be. The TV, the iPhone app and the remote check-off never ask you to connect an assistant.

Some families love planning by chat; some would rather not share anything with an AI company. Both are fine. This page is for families who want it, and it explains exactly what an assistant will be able to see, so you can decide before the connector opens.

Short answer

Which AI assistants can manage a family calendar?

For FamilyOrganization.app, the MCP connector we're developing is for two assistants, Claude and ChatGPT, and it isn't open to families yet. An Alexa skill is in development too, and Gemini isn't supported.

People often ask what the top three AI assistants are. For a family, the more useful question is which ones can actually reach your family's plan. General assistants can write a schedule, but they can't see what's on your TV or tick off your child's chores unless they're connected to where that plan lives.

When a household admin connects Claude or ChatGPT, it can read the day, add or complete tasks and plan meals. It sees only that one family's data, and changes show up on the TV at its next refresh, which is every few minutes. That's how it works in our own house; other families will get it when it's out of development.

Capabilities

What can Claude or ChatGPT do with FamilyOrganization.app?

Through the connector we're developing, it can read your family's day, add and complete tasks, build and edit routines, and plan the week's meals, all by asking in plain words.

The connector runs at https://familyorganization.app/mcp and uses the same household data as the phone and the TV. It can also manage the shopping list's prices, plan queued tasks onto a day, week or month, and assign a task to someone. It can't add calendar events yet, and it can't create or delete login accounts.

Things you'll be able to ask it:

  • “For Theo, add: get Play-Doh off the kitchen counter.”
  • “What's left on everyone's list today?”
  • “Plan dinners for next week and put them on the menu.”

Only household admins can connect one, and it sees only that family's data. See every feature in the app.

Calendars

Can ChatGPT organize my calendar?

Partly, once our connector opens. Connected to FamilyOrganization.app, ChatGPT can read your family's calendar events and organize tasks, routines and meals around them, but it can't add calendar events yet.

Your family's events reach FamilyOrganization.app from the calendars on your iPhone: iCloud, or Google and Outlook accounts added to the phone. Sync runs one way, from the phone to the household, and the TV shows each event color-coded by person.

So ChatGPT can answer “what's on Saturday?”, see that soccer starts at 9, and add “pack shin guards” to your son's list the night before. It won't move or create the soccer event itself. Adding events by chat is planned, not built, and the connector itself is still in development. The same is true of Claude. Whether ChatGPT can reach your Google or Outlook calendar directly is up to OpenAI's own connectors, which we don't control.

Set up

How will connecting Claude or ChatGPT work?

The connector is in development and not open to families yet. This is how it works in our own house: add the connector, approve it once as a household admin, then ask.

  1. Step 1: Add the connector

In Claude: Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector, and paste https://familyorganization.app/mcp. In ChatGPT: turn on developer mode in Settings, then Security and login, and add the same address as an app.

  2. Step 2: Sign in and approve

You'll see a FamilyOrganization.app screen listing what the assistant will and won't be able to do. Only household admins can approve it.

  3. Step 3: Ask in plain words

“For Theo, add: pick up shoes by the back door.” The task appears on his list, and on the TV at its next refresh.

ChatGPT developer mode is available to Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web, according to OpenAI's developer mode guide (opens in a new tab) (checked Sep 27, 2026). Claude's menu names come from our own setup notes; if they move, look for “Connectors” in Claude's settings.

Definition

What does MCP stand for?

In AI, MCP stands for Model Context Protocol: an open standard that lets assistants like Claude and ChatGPT connect to apps and data.

Anthropic introduced the Model Context Protocol on November 25, 2024, describing it as an open standard for secure, two-way connections between data sources and AI tools (Anthropic's announcement (opens in a new tab)). The project's own site compares it to a USB-C port for AI applications and lists both Claude and ChatGPT among the assistants that support it (modelcontextprotocol.io (opens in a new tab)).

An MCP server is the piece an app runs so an assistant can use it. FamilyOrganization.app's MCP server, in development, is what lets Claude read today's chores and add the task you asked for. Outside AI, the same letters mean other things:

ChatGPT

Does ChatGPT use MCP?

Yes. ChatGPT's developer mode provides full Model Context Protocol client support, so it can connect to remote MCP servers such as the one FamilyOrganization.app is developing.

OpenAI's guide says developer mode supports MCP tools that read and write, and it warns users to watch for prompt injection, model mistakes on write actions and untrustworthy servers (OpenAI developer mode (opens in a new tab), checked Sep 27, 2026). That warning applies here too: the connector can change your family's lists, so ChatGPT is asked to read deletions back before making them.

Once our connector opens, you'll turn developer mode on in ChatGPT's settings, add https://familyorganization.app/mcp as an app, and approve the connection as a household admin. Claude takes the same connector as a custom connector.

Privacy

Is it safe to connect an AI assistant?

It's limited by design: only a household admin can connect one, it sees only your family, and you can cut it off at any time. Those limits are built into the connector now, while it's in development.

Every request runs as the parent who connected it, using that parent's own sign-in token. The database's row-level security decides what exists for that request, so another family's data isn't hidden from the assistant; it's unreachable. Connecting grants view and edit, including deleting, and there's no view-only option yet. What you share goes to the assistant's company (Anthropic or OpenAI) under their terms. Details are in our privacy policy, and you can disconnect at familyorganization.app/account/connections.

Does it work with Alexa?

Not yet. An Alexa skill is in development, and it isn't available to families yet.

It will let kids and parents hear their list and check off chores by voice, without a phone. We'll say so here, with a date, once it works on a real Echo.

In their words

What did parents say about planning with AI?

Several already use AI to carry the family admin. Quotes are verbatim from Facebook comments, September 2026.

Enlisting help of AI is a brilliant idea…

Would def be interested in testing but I don’t have Roku, I use google tv. I wonder if I could help convert it to a Google tv app for you, if you’re interested. We use Alexa, Claude and chatgpt so the other integrations would def work well.

The database enforces this, so a child's login or a TV can't hand an assistant your family's data.

Can Claude or ChatGPT add events to my calendar?

Not yet: the connector, which is in development, can read your family's calendar events, but adding events by chat is planned, not built.

Events come from the calendars on your iPhone, synced one way.

Can I give the assistant view-only access?

Not yet: connecting grants view and edit access, including deleting tasks and routines.

The consent screen says so in those words. A view-only option is planned.

How do I disconnect an assistant?

Sign in at familyorganization.app/account/connections and remove it.
