What 400 parent comments taught us about building for ADHD families

In September 2026 a photo of our family's TV travelled through ADHD and parenting groups on Facebook. These are our notes on what about 435 comments, all within a week, asked for, what we built next, and what we said "not yet" to.

Two questions parents ask first

If you only read one thing today, read one of these. Each answer stands on its own.

Short answer

How do you organize a family schedule?

Put everyone's commitments in one shared place, give each person their own row, and show it where the whole family looks every day.

Start by collecting every fixed commitment for the week: school, work, activities and appointments. Keep them on one calendar rather than spread across several apps. Give each person a color or a row, so kids can find their own day without reading everyone else’s. Then add the hidden time around each event, how long it takes to get ready and to travel, so the plan shows when to leave and not just when things start. Review the week together once, in a 15-minute family meeting, and fix clashes there. Finally, make the schedule visible without anyone opening an app. On FamilyOrganization.app, each family member gets a timeline of the day drawn to scale on the TV, with a red line marking the current time: everyone’s day on one screen.

Short answer

Where do you start with getting organized as a family?

Start with one list, one shared calendar and one weekly check-in, not a new system for everything.

First, empty your head: write down every recurring job and appointment, including the invisible ones like permission slips and birthday presents. Our mental load checklist has a table to fill in together. Second, choose one place for the plan that everyone can see, and stop keeping parallel lists. Third, give every job one owner, so nothing depends on one parent remembering. Fourth, build a few routines that repeat without discussion, starting with the school morning routine. Keep it small: one routine that sticks is worth more than a perfect system abandoned in week two. In ADHD households, many families find that seeing time helps more than being reminded of it; our guide for ADHD families explains why.
