Not Every Routine Has a Clock Time, and It Took Me Too Long to Admit It

August 24: routines with no start time.

The Ford family · Josh, dad and builder of FamilyOrganization.app, writing up his build journey

On August 24 I let a routine have no start time. "Dishes" rotates between people and happens whenever. It's a real routine, but it isn't an appointment, and until then the only way to save one was to invent an hour, which drew a block on the TV timeline nobody meant.

An untimed routine's items now act like ordinary tasks: due all day on the days it repeats, counted in the progress ring, and drawn nowhere on the timeline. The start-time rule lived in five layers of the code, so I changed all five, starting with the shared test cases and adding six new ones. Here's how routines work.

Built on August 24, 2026 (commit c618e72). Written up on October 2, 2026 from my commit history.
